Liquid Dishwasher Detergent

You will need

4 Cups – Water

3/4 Cups – Washing Soda

1/2 Cup – Borax

1/4 Cup – Liquid Castile Soap

2 tbsp or more – fruit

essence (make this first)

—-OR—-

2 Tbsp of your favorite

essential oil to be added

when this cools.

Instructions

  1. In a deep pot, bring water to a boil over high heat.
  2. Once boiling, reduce heat to a medium-low.
  3. Slowly and carefully add the washing soda. Whisk or stir until completely dissolved.
  4. Once all of the washing soda is dissolved allow to cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Slowly and carefully add the borax. Stir or whisk until dissolved.
  6. Once the borax is dissolved add the Liquid Castile Soap, slowly and carefully.
  7. Stir or whisk gently to avoid making bubbles.
  8. Reduce the fire to low for a simmer.
  9. Add your fruit essence or allow to cool completely, if you are using essential oils.
  10. Gently whisk or stir together.
  11. Allow to simmer for 20 minutes, stir once again and turn off the burner.
  12. Allow to cool and sit overnight. It will thicken and become gel like. This mixture must become gel-like before proceeding to the next and final step.
  13. Blend this mixture until smooth and transfer to an airtight container. ***REMINDER: if you are using essential oils be sure to add the oils once completely cooled and store this detergent in a GLASS container.
  14. Use 1-2 Tablespoons per load. It all depends on how big or small your dish load is. **TIP** Fill your rinse dispenser with distilled white vinegar for a natural rinse. You will be amazed at how shiny your glass comes out. It also works as a disinfectant.
